Advanced Photo
Course Description:
The course is designed for the serious student interested in continuing their study of digital or darkroom photography. This course presents a more complex understanding of the digital camera, Photoshop, film camera, and darkroom procedures. It introduces students to some manipulation of the medium with new technical processes including alternative printing processes, studio portraiture, photojournalism and the view camera. Students will explore photography as an intellectual and technical process with a strong emphasis on the communication of ideas. The course also covers the history of photography and introduces students to the work of several major photographers. Students should have access to a digital camera or a 35mm camera for their use. There is a $50 lab fee for basic photo supplies of film darkroom paper, ink and digital photo paper. In case of financial hardship speak directly with the teacher.
Prerequisites: Foundation Studio and Photography I or Digital Photo.
Grades 10, 11 and 12 only.
Instructional Methods:
Students will work independently in executing the class projects. The teacher will conduct lectures and demonstrations before, during and after assigned projects. Students and teacher will conduct group critiques at the end of each project to talk about constructive concept development and technique. As students finish each project, they will write reflective statements about their work. At the end of the semester, we will look at the entire portfolio of work created in that semester in one final critique.
